Law School Essentials

Here I'll keep a running list of the random things I've found essential to my success in law school. Hope they help you too!

Okay I know it sounds absurd to pay $60 for a LIGHTBULB but hear me out. You can change this one from a free app on your phone to any color/brightness, which is cool in itself. But the BEST part about it is you can set the light as an alarm to wake you up. So, mine starts from the dimmest and slowly gets brighter from 6:15-6:30 a.m. Light stimulates some chemical (I'm a law student not a scientist) that helps you wake up, so my phone alarm isn't nearly as startling when it goes off at 6:30. Plus, the bulb is supposed to last for a super long time.

A sturdy backpack

With textbooks weighing more than a small child, lugging them around has taken a toll on my back. My canvas sorority tote bags from undergrad definitely do not cut it anymore. I use this one from Swiss gear ($45) and it easily fits my laptop, a textbook or two, my planner, binder, and pencil pouch, without killing my back and shoulders.

A planner

I LOVE my Erin Condren Planner and have been using them for the past few years. You can customize the layout (horizontal, vertical or hourly) and the cover (name, initial, personal photos, etc.). Non-customizable ready-to-ship options are available for a bit cheaper, as well. I currently have a horizontal layout, but may go back to the vertical one next year.
